How bpha made a difference
Corby resident Jane Donnelly, one of bpha’s inaugural Community Champions, formed the Dumble Close Community Action Group in 2003 to provide activities for some 70 youngsters who live in the area.
Jane (pictured) said: “It’s nice to be recognised because it gives our street and our group a boost,” adding: “It’s really an award for everyone in the group because we all pull together.”
She also paid tribute to bpha Community Development Officer Jim Playle. “He has worked so hard and supported us to get things up and running. Nothing happened in this street before so it is nice that so much is going on now. The kids have really got to know each other, they play together without fighting and they’ve learned to share. And we all have so much fun.”
Jane helped set up a parent and toddler group at bpha Community House, where there is also a drop-in after school club, thanks to her. She has helped build community spirit, including supporting children in setting up their own management committee - the youngest member being just five. |
