bpha has many
development opportunities.
Given the region's economic growth and rising house prices, bpha
has been keen to respond promptly to the changing needs and expectations
of existing and potential residents and partners. We have therefore
sought additional funding, from Government, private developers and
other sources, and strengthened partnership working with local authorities
to enable us to build new affordable housing.
bpha has been at the forefront of providing housing
for key public sector workers since 1997. Our unrivalled expertise
was recognised in March 2004 when the Government named Keyhomes
East as one of only six 'zone agents' for the new Key Worker Living
Programme.
More recently, following its success in delivering the programme,
bpha was appointed in April 2006 as the Government's
HomeBuy agent for the Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire zone, including
Peterborough and parts of west Suffolk, and Northamptonshire. As
a HomeBuy agent, bpha works through its Keyhomes
East arm with other housing associations and local authorities in
these areas to promote low cost home ownership schemes for housing
association and local authority tenants, housing register applicants,
key workers and first-time buyers.
In addition to this work, bpha was granted its
highest ever allocation through the Housing Corporation's Approved
Development Programme for 2006/08.
The £41 million grant is helping bpha and
its partners in the Key
Communities development partnership to deliver an
extensive affordable housing programme costing a total of £143
million over the two years across the eastern region.
Key Communities delivered an exceptional performance in 2006-07.
