If you are looking for rented housing in the Bedford borough area, you can apply to join the Bedford Borough Housing Register. All
bpha rented housing and a large amount of rented housing belonging to other housing associations in the area is let to people on the housing register.
Usually, only people with a high level of housing need can be housed in this way.
bpha's allocations policy (which is the Bedfordshire Homefinder Partnership’s joint allocations scheme) explains how housing need is assessed and how we award priority to applications. See below for more information.
View the
Housing register application form.
Alternatively, you can collect a form from our offices or phone us on 0330 100 0272 and we will post one to you. You should complete the form and send it or bring it to our office, along with the required supporting documentation.
If you have additional medical needs that are made worse by your current housing, you will need to fill out a
medical form too.
If you are a
bpha tenant wanting to transfer, you will need to complete the application form. If you live outside Bedford borough, you will need to apply directly to your own local authority. If you want to live in a
bpha property, you should mention this on your application form and the local authority will take this into account when nominating you from the housing register.
When we receive your form, we will first check whether you are eligible to join the housing register. If you are eligible, we will assess your housing needs and write to you within 14 days to tell you your priority. We will also confirm the size of property you could be offered.

Who is eligible?
Most people will be eligible to join the register, but you may not be eligible if:
- You have come to the UK from abroad and fall into one of the categories of people we are not allowed to house. If you are not sure if this applies to you, you can telephone our Lettings Team for advice on 0330 100 0272
- You have previously been involved in antisocial behaviour which means you were evicted from a tenancy, or would have been likely to be evicted if the case had gone to court
You may also be eligible for the housing register, but have a low priority because:
- You are a homeowner, or have sold a home and received substantial equity from the sale
- You have a high household income
- You have former rent arrears or other debts to bpha or another Council or housing association
- You have been guilty of abusive, threatening or antisocial behaviour directed at bpha staff, staff of any of our Partner organisations, or your neighbours or members of the public
- You are from outside of Bedford and don't have a local connection to Bedford borough
