A headless horse and a dog with stones in its eyes were just two of the fascinating finds uncovered at an archaeological dig which took place during the building of Loves Farm in St Neots.
On Friday evening, the new community will enjoy the first of many events organised by the residents themselves, during which they will be able to see some of the artefacts found during archaeological excavations and speak to excavation director, Mark Hinman from Oxford Archaeology East.
Carl Jones, chairperson for Loves Farm Community Association said: “Loves Farm saw one of the largest archaeological digs ever undertaken in the UK and was in the running to be featured on ‘Time Team’. The evening is a celebration of how far we’ve come not just in the past year but in the evolution of the site itself.”
“An Evening of Discovery” takes place from 7pm on Friday 9th October at St Neots Football Club. Residents can enjoy a glass of champagne, along with snacks and a fully licensed bar. The presentation from Mark Hinman will be followed by the Annual General Meeting of the Loves Farm Community Association. A quiz and disco will bring the evening to a close.
Katie Baldwin, community development officer at bpha said: “This is the first event in what will be a busy calendar for residents during the next few months. Highlights will include a Caribbean Evening, another “Big Lunch” and more welcome events for new residents. Also, a Loves Farm website (www.ourlovesfarm.co.uk) is under development which will be managed by the Community Association.
“It’s great to see the community coming together like this and taking an active interest in the area where they live.”
