Homes for local people in Harpole  - 08/06/2010

Local people will be the priority when much needed new homes are completed at a new development on Larkhall Way.

Bedfordshire Pilgrims Housing Association (bpha) is working with Northamptonshire Rural Housing Association and South Northamptonshire Council to build 14 properties which will be available for rent and rent to homebuy.

Tracey Barrett, Assistant Development Director at bpha said: “We are pleased to be starting work on Larkhall Way and we anticipate that the development will be ready for its first residents in February next year. Priority will be given to people living locally which is good news for anyone in the area who is looking for a property but wants to stay close to friends or family.”

The development will consist of eight two- and three-bedroom houses, four two-bedroom flats and the remaining two will be two-bedroom bungalows. Part funded by the HCA (Homes and Communities Agency), planning for this rural exception site was approved in March and was followed by a ten week design period.

Councillor Mary Clarke, Portfolio Holder for Community Regeneration said: “All villages need a range of skills, income groups and age groups, representing a diversity of interests and abilities if they are to remain sustainable, balanced and viable communities. This affordable housing scheme, aimed at those people who want to set up home in the village where they have a strong local connection, will make a significant contribution to community life in Harpole.”

Jasper Hart, chairman of NRHA, said: “This is another good example of partnership working between local authorities, housing associations and the Parish Council to provide much needed homes."

Tracey Barrett continued:  “Harpole is a small village located some 6 miles west of the County. Close to the town of Northampton, it has a primary school, day nursery and pre school, three public houses, a church, post office, village store and newsagents. As such, Larkhall Way is in a prime location and we anticipate a thriving community once the development is complete.”

South Northamptonshire Council is holding a drop in session at the Old School Hall on Wednesday 30th June between 3.30pm and 6.15pm. Officers from the council and Housing Associations will be on hand to provide residents and housing applicants with more information about Larkhall Way and to answer any questions about the homes, the eligibility criteria and how to apply to be considered for one of the homes.
