Wednesday 13th October, 11am to 2pm,
Oxlip House, Airfield Road, Bury St Edmunds, IP3
Following overwhelming interest from potential applicants,
the first residents will shortly be moving into a brand new housing development
for older people in Bury St Edmunds.
Oxlip House provides rented and shared ownership apartments
to anyone aged 55 years and over, along with additional care if required.
Roy Hind, Head of Intermediate Tenure at bpha said, “Our show flat was open for
viewings from 12 April, and since then we have sold 26 of the 39
shared ownership apartments, and let 10 of the 13 rented flats. The level of
interest we received was remarkable, especially as up until now we only had the
show flat available to view.
“We believe that this success has come not only from the
high demand of care required to meet the needs of our aging population, but
also the shared ownership option. This offer is quite unique and ideal for
anyone who wants to have greater control of their living environment and potentially
see a financial return on their property.”
The new residents will be officially welcomed to Oxlip House
at a ceremonial event on Wednesday 13 October, hosted by representatives
from Bedfordshire Pilgrims Housing Association (bpha) and the Orders of St John Care
Trust (OSJCT), the two partners responsible for the scheme. The day will also
feature a celebratory performance from Abbotts Green Primary School Choir,
followed by a tour of the facility.
Located only three miles from the town centre, Oxlip House
provides 52 one and two bedroom flats. Residents who require extra care will be
able to access 24-hour support from OSJCT’s on-site health care teams and bpha’s Carelink system, an emergency
call facility.
Leanne Olding, OSJCT’s County Finance & Business Manager
said: ““We’re very proud of Oxlip House and we’re looking forward to developing
our unique brand of quality care and support services in Bury St Edmunds. Together with bpha, we have a wide range of experience
in the provision of high quality services for older people to help ensure Oxlip
House will be a high quality environment and a valuable part of the community
in Bury St Edmunds.”
Julia Blower, the daughter of one of the new residents said:
“My mother needed to move somewhere that could provide the support for her
additional care needs, and she wanted to remain in the familiar surroundings of
Bury St Edmunds. Oxlip House offered my mother part ownership of her home while
being able to live independently within a safe and secure environment. Having
the communal areas right on her doorstep gives my mother the great opportunity
to make new friends, and I know that whatever the weather, my mother can still
be mobile.”
