Residents at Bury Court are getting the chance to flex their green fingers after successfully transforming a disused area of land into a beautiful garden full of their favourite flowers and plants.
Funding from bpha’s Cash 4 Your Community made it possible for residents to adopt the lawn at the front of Bury Court that they have decided to name Cedar Garden, and has paid for seeds and tools to enable residents to tend the garden themselves.
To celebrate their success, the residents are holding an official opening for Cedar Garden on Saturday 10th September at 2pm where tea and light refreshments will be available.
Kim Norris, Community Development Officer for bpha, said: “This project was entirely the residents’ idea. They applied for the funding themselves in April and were also involved with preparing the land by removing all litter and the planting process. Four months later, the result is a beautiful and functioning garden for Bury Court residents to use and enjoy.
“Funding was also awarded from bpha’s Neighbourhood Improvement Funds to help the garden stay a garden by paying to rope off the area which will stop cars parking on the grass.
“It’s been a lot of hard work but I am delighted at what has been achieved. I know that the residents are really proud of their new garden.”
One of the residents, Jim Robinson, said: “I hope that Cedar Garden will continue to be used for years to come as a place for residents to socialise in and enjoy planting and tending the plants and flowers.
“It’s really helped to bring us together as a group and is testament to what we can achieve if we all work together, and we really appreciate all of bpha’s support.”
