Adults and children living in Goldington Green and Putnoe received a family-sized treat last Wednesday with a free family fun event being held at the Goldington Community Centre in Bedford.
The event, which was run jointly by housing association bpha and the Goldington and Putnoe Children’s Centre, was designed to raise awareness amongst the local community about the facilities that are available to residents living in the area.
The day offered children under 5 and their families the chance to enjoy playing on a bouncey castle, storytelling, and singing, along with an overview of the services and support that both the Centre and bpha offer in the area.
Kim Norris, Community Development Officer at bpha, said that the event was popular amongst the community.
‘More than 40 families came along on the day and everyone really enjoyed the activities that we had on offer for the children,’ she said.
“bpha and the Goldington and Putnoe Children’s Centre are both local organisations that provide a range of services and support to people in the community with young families,” said Kim.
“We really wanted to make sure that we got the message out about the services we offer and thought that an event held during the summer holiday period would be the perfect way to do this.
Mandy Conlon, the Family Work Manager at the Goldington and Putnoe Children’s Centre said that this was the first of many events they hoped to run with bpha.
‘Working in partnership on events like this with bpha means that we can both develop better links with the local community and encourage people to come along to learn more about us,’ said Mandy.
‘We’ve had great feedback from the families that attended and have already received requests for more events – everyone is really looking forward to working together again.’
