Community's spring clean
A community turned out to perform a massive spring clean of the
streets around their homes.
Families from Elms Farm, Goldington, hit the streets armed with
litter pickers and bin bags to take part in the clean-up event.
As well as picking up litter, the crews also piled larger items,
including a three-seater settee and a fridge, onto big wagons.
The event, part of BPHA's Neighbourhood Renewal Project funded
by the county and borough councils, also received additional funding
from the Bedford and Kempston Regeneration Partnership.
Karen Nicholson, neighbourhood renewal co-ordinator at BPHA,
said: "The day was a big success with over 30 tonnes of rubbish
collected.
"Everyone worked very hard, particularly the children. Now they
have shown what they can do, they have no excuses about keeping
their rooms tidy too."
BPHA was awarded a £38,000 grant from the Bedford and Kempston
Regeneration Partnership at the end of last year to carry out
this and other events within Bedford, Kempston and Wootton.
Events include various community activities, from clean-up days,
gardening initiatives and community surveys to youth activity
days within Bedford, Kempston and Wootton.
