John takes the crosses
The chief executive of Bedford's leading housing association
put himself in the goal to raise money for charity.
John Cross, chief executive of bpha, fielded penalties from members
of the public in return for donations to Homeless International,
in Harpur Square, Bedford, on Tuesday, October 24.
The event raised a total of £142, which will go towards
Homeless International's work to reduce homelessness and poverty
around the world .
Joining him for the penalty shoot-out was Peterborough United
director of football, Barry Fry.
As well as raising money, the event was also held to publicise
bpha's Residents' Open Day, held at the Harpur Suite, Bedford,
on Wednesday, November 1.
The conference, held annually, is a chance for bpha tenants to
find out more about their landlord, ask questions and talk to
staff and representatives from other local agencies.
John Cross said: "As a housing association, we are committed
to tackling homelessness by providing affordable housing and support
services. This is something that Homeless International is tackling
on a global scale.
"I am delighted that so many people took the opportunity to come
and take part in the penalty shoot-out and raise money. Between
us we managed to keep a fair few balls from hitting the back of
the net."
