Line dancing, ten pin bowling and tai chi are just some of the
activities on offer as part of the Fit and Bhealthy@60 Project.
The aim of this project is to introduce a range of activities
and exercise for the over sixties in bpha's retirement
schemes. The project came about through feedback from tenants
and the response to a short-term project called "Dance To
Music".
The partners for the project are Sport England, The Primary Care
Trust and Bedford Borough Council. The group's aim is to offer
activities that improve the quality of life and independence for
residents and members of the community and help them enjoy life
through improved health and mobility. An afternoon session has
recently started at a local community centre and this has also
proved to be very popular.
bpha supported the project co-ordinator to train
for a YMCA qualification in movement to music, exercise for older
adults, GP referral and fitness knowledge.
