Background to the Decent Homes project
This survey was also used to assess our
progress towards meeting the Decent Homes standard. The
survey indicated that our current level of non-decency was
11%. The Decent Homes standard set by the Government must be
met by 2010 which means that we must not have any properties
that fail the standard by then.
The stock condition survey was a comprehensive study of our homes
and has given us some solid and reliable baseline information.
This data is now held in a dedicated stock condition database
and we are working hard to ensure this data is kept up to date.
When a surveyor visits one of our properties now, for whatever
reason, they will usually carry out a full stock condition survey
as well. The results of this survey are entered into our stock
condition database. This ensures we are constantly updating the
information we hold on our stock to keep it relevant and up to
date.
We have used the results of the stock condition survey along
with a number of other criteria to devise a new long-term improvement
programme, known as the Decent Homes Improvement Programme. This
programme has been put in place to ensure all of our properties
meet the Decent Homes standard by the deadline of 2010.
