Employees from bpha helped donate over 190 kilograms of food and 30 bags of clothes to Bedford charities in 2017.
Food donations
bpha has supported Bedford Foodbank since 2013 with donations of food and in 2014 began allocating foodbank vouchers to eligible residents.
So far in 2018 staff have already donated more than 34 kilograms of non-perishable items to the Foodbank.
Andrea Badman, Assistant Project Manager at Bedford Foodbank, said: “The donation from bpha in 2017 has contributed to the foodbank being able to feed 6,570 people, of whom 2,245 were children, and to distribute 73,662 kilogrammes of food. In December alone not including Christmas hampers, we fed 794 people and handed out 7.8 tonnnes of food.”
Warm clothing donations
bpha was also the single biggest corporate donor to ReUse Centre in Bedford in 2017, having donated a much needed 30 bags of winter clothing to its WrapUp Bedford campaign.
The ReUse Centre has three primary objectives: alleviating poverty, improving the community and protecting the environment and has a new project which addresses all three issues – #FeedBedford.
Julie Wittich, Director of Service Delivery, said: “It’s been an amazing effort by all our fantastic staff to help donate so much food to such worthy charities in the Bedford area.
“As a major housing association we see lots of people in need and it’s great to see how much the donations of our employees can add throughout the year.”
