Two years after Warburton House opened its doors for the first time, residents and their families got together to mark the event.
An evening of celebration was organised by residents and staff at the retirement living scheme in Cambridge. The event paid homage to the varied cultural backgrounds of the residents living there. The food, drink and music was chosen to reflect this heritage, with Lebanese, Greek and contemporary dance continuing late into the night.
Resident, Vesela Trbonja, has lived at Warburton House since July 2017 and was one of the first residents to move in. She said: “I moved from London to Cambridge and thought I’d miss the diverse community I’d experienced for 25 years in London, but I was wrong.
“Warburton House is an incredible scheme with so many lovely residents from different cultural backgrounds. I thoroughly enjoyed the celebration. The highlight for me was the cake and pie that were traditional foods in my home town, in the former Yugoslavia.
“I shrieked with joy when I realised that Hussein, a member of staff, had made it for me. I have since thanked him many times for reminding me of the lovely taste that I’ve missed so much.”
Hussein, who is the Senior Housing Co-ordinator at Warburton House, added: “It was wonderful to be able to celebrate our second birthday. The party was a great success, with residents telling us how much they enjoyed the event. I even had a dance and that’s saying something!”
Warburton House retirement living community for the over 55s is based in Ninewells, Cambridge, overlooking the beautiful Gog Magog Hills. The scheme has a selection of modern two-bedroom apartments for rent and shared ownership, along with a range of facilities such as a lounge and hair salon.
