Shared Ownership is an affordable alternative to renting.
Shared Ownership offers owners the chance to buy shares in their home as and when convenient. This typically means they pay a mortgage for the portion of home they own and a reduced rent on the remaining part of the house.
Some homeowners can then ‘staircase’ ie. buy more shares until they have a 100% mortgage on the home they live in.
Shared Ownership represents about 20% of the total amount of applications that Help to Buy processes.
