Waste2Taste Community Café at Shotover View

bpha is delighted to provide Waste2Taste with permanent premises within Shotover View.

Waste2Taste is an Oxford based community interest company committed towards a healthy and sustainable food culture. It reduces waste by making healthy meals from surplus ingredients provided by The Oxford Food Hub and Bucksum Farm shop.

bpha Extra Care Scheme Manager, Kay Fairclough said: “I was initially introduced to Sandra and Marie of Waste2Taste by Simon Grove-White from Oxford City Council. We agreed with Councillor Ajaz Rehman that by connecting social enterprises with Shotover View, we would be able to contribute to a thriving social environment for our residents, and the local community.”

Simon GrShotover View Cafeove-White, Principal Economic Development Officer, Community Wealth Building Oxford City Council said “This is a great example of local organisations working together to create lasting benefit for the whole community. It’s exactly the kind of thing we’re looking to support through our community wealth building work, through partnerships like Owned by Oxford, and we’d encourage everyone to get in touch if you want to know more.”

Cllr Ajaz Rehman, Lye Valley Ward, Oxford City Council Small Business & Inclusive Economy Champion said: “This is the most exciting development in Lye Valley that I can remember! I am so grateful to both teams at Shotover View and Waste 2 Taste who have brought this amazing community project to life. A real community led project serving the community. Massive thank you to all involved!”

Waste2Taste is one of the funding partners of the OX4 Food Crew, an alliance of nine organisations, who came together during the COVID-19 pandemic to tackle the high levels of food inequality experienced by some of our customers. Their goal was to ensure that everyone in the community had enough good food and twice a week they provided 200 cooked healthy lunches for the community.

Sandra and Marie from Waste2Taste said: “When we set up Waste2Taste in 2017 we wanted to show the World that we could make magic with surplus ingredients by creating fantastic healthy and super tasty dishes. We had a very clear mission: To provide affordable and ethical food, serving local people through a community café, providing a catering service with a vision towards a vibrant, healthy and sustainable food culture, committed to reduce food waste. We successfully achieved all of that.

“The café is our face, the connection with the community and our catering business is an amazing social enterprise used by the biggest employers in Oxfordshire.

“We are extremely grateful to bpha for allowing us to take over the kitchen and café space at Shotover View. We are so excited at this opportunity. We can’t wait to meet all residents and to connect with the local community. We are certain all will massively benefit from having a welcoming, vibrant community space serving delicious and affordable food. This beautiful kitchen will also allow us to grow our catering business even bigger, create more free meals to the most in need in OX4 and become a special Community space open to all.”
