Members of the local community, Parish Councillors, representatives from Bedford Borough Council as well as the companies involved in the design and build of the new homes, gathered together on Monday 10 December to mark the official start on site of St Mary’s Place, Carlton.

This is Bushmead Homes’ first development in Bedfordshire and is set to provide a mix of ten new-build houses together with the refurbishment of an existing property for outright sale. A further six homes will be offered as Shared Ownership along with two bungalows which will be developed for rent.

Councillor David Jenkins attended the ground-breaking ceremony on behalf of Carlton and Chellington Parish Council and said: “Firstly, we are pleased to have homes being built in the village that will be affordable and will give priority to those with a connection to the village. We are also pleased that some of the dwellings are bungalows as our residents’ survey showed a need for such houses.

“When the first plan was shown to us we were concerned over some aspects of it and we are pleased that many of those concerns have been listened to particularly on the density of housing and numbers of parking spaces and finally we are pleased that the construction is being done by Parrott’s, a local firm.”

Jeff Astle, Bushmead Director, said: “It was wonderful to gather the community together and celebrate the start of our Carlton development. Not only is this an exciting time for Bushmead Homes it is also an exciting time for the community and to have such positive feedback from Carlton and Chellington Parish Council and local residents is great.”

St Mary’s Place is anticipated to complete in October 2019. Please call 01234 619058 to register an interest.
