Making changes to my home

If you have a tenancy with us you can make changes to your home. These are set out in your tenancy agreement under right to make improvements or alterations. If you are a homeowner please refer to the improvements section.

Alterations and permissions

We are flexible in allowing you to make alterations to your home but you need written permission from us before you start any work. Failure to obtain written permission could mean we have to reinstate the alteration and charge you for our costs.

Adaptations and equipment

bpha is committed to helping improve the quality of life for residents with disabilities and health or mobility problems, by adapting their homes and we work with local authorities to do so.

Before you start to make improvements, you must contact us to seek permission to carry out the works. This is set out in your tenancy agreement. We will not unreasonably refuse but we do need to make sure any works are carried out by an appropriately qualified person and to the correct standards.

The types of works we get asked about vary and include amongst other things, charging points for electric cars/vans, external light fittings, changes to bathrooms, kitchens and patios.

To request permission, click the button below.

Depending on your request, we may send a surveyor to inspect your property to check whether your request is possible. In some circumstances our decision may be conditional, such as agreeing to reinstate your home if you decide to leave.

If you carry out an improvement without letting us know, there is a risk you may have to reinstate the property back to its original condition at your own cost.
