Supported housing - professionals

bpha is a leading provider and developer of affordable homes, including general needs rent, Independent Living and homes for shared ownership.

We have thirty years’ experience providing Independent Living homes and care. We manage supported housing for people with diagnosed mental health conditions in Bedford, and for people with learning disabilities in Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire.

Who is bpha supported housing for?

Our supported housing is for individuals with a mental health condition or learning disabilities that prevent them being able to cope living completely independently.

What does bpha supported housing offer?

bpha supported housing gives customers somewhere safe, stable and supportive to live. Each scheme has a dedicated Independent Living Officer who works alongside our customers with your support, or the support of other appropriate organisations, to help them develop the skills to meet their current and future needs. It’s a condition of living in supported housing that they do this.

The Independent Living Officer will support with day-to-day tasks such as finding and applying for work, completing forms, and setting up services, such as electricity or a phone. Depending on the customer’s needs, they will also provide more intensive housing support.

We have ‘move on’ schemes, where customers can live for up to two years, until ready to move on and live more independently. We also have two supported living schemes for people who need a longer-term home.

Our schemes are made up of small blocks of individual one-bedroom flats that have a cooker, fridge and either a washing machine, or access to a laundry room.

How does the referral process work?

Please email supportedhousing@bpha.org.uk for a referral form, or request one by calling 0330 100 0272.

The person you are referring needs to be willing to have a needs and a risk assessment to make sure bpha supported living is right for them. Once they’ve moved in, they will also need to work closely with our colleagues to develop, then work through, a person-centred plan. Please discuss this together before completing a referral.

For schemes for individuals with a mental health condition, the form MUST be accompanied by a Community Programme Approach plan and a risk assessment that are less than six months old.

For someone with a learning disability, please provide recent social care assessment and support plan completed by the Care Manager or Social Worker that identifies relevant support requirements and risks.

What happens now?

A member of our team will contact you to resolve any queries and discuss next steps, which could be contacting the customer for a suitability assessment, or inviting them to view a flat.
