bpha to become a FRIEND of the Stop Social Housing Stigma campaign

17 August 2026

We’re delighted that we are joining other organisations to become a FRIEND of the Stop Social Housing Stigma. A tenant led campaign that celebrates the value of social housing, challenging unfair stereotypes and eliminating discrimination against residents. Set up in 2017 to unite tenants, landlords, contractors and others.  We’re looking forward to help support the work they do and help combat social housing stigma.

Research carried out showed that tenants felt stigma is widespread, structural, and deeply felt, with:

  • Over two thirds (70%) of social housing tenants feel stigmatised living in social housing
  • Over half (54%) feel stigmatised because of the actions of their landlords
  • Over two-thirds (68%) consider the Government has done little or nothing to address stigma.

You can read what tenants told the campaign by visiting https://stopsocialhousingstigma.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Stigma-in-social-housing-what-tenants-told-us.pdf  and to read the report in full visit https://stopsocialhousingstigma.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Widespread-structural-and-deeply-felt.pdf
