On a very sunny day we recently celebrated with residents the completion of our scheme at Fen Drayton. It was an opportunity for everyone to get to know each other as they enjoyed ice cream and pizza.
The development was made possible through collaborative working with a number of organisations including Cambridgeshire ACRE (Action with Communities in Rural England), South Cambridgeshire District Council and Fen Drayton Parish Council.
The scheme comprises a mix of 14 homes, including one-bedroom bungalows and one-two- and three-bedroom houses for social rent and shared ownership. It was funded with a Homes England grant from the Affordable Housing Programme, together with bpha finance.
The homes have been designed to achieve EPC A ratings through a more thermally efficient building fabric and the use of solar photovoltaic panels and air-source heat pumps. Electric vehicle charging points and cycle parking facilities have been provided, along with a footpath which links the homes to the adjacent village hall and playing field.
The scheme will exceed Biodiversity Net Gain standards with native planting, integrated bat and bird boxes and hedgehog highways. The external lighting will minimise the effects of light pollution on the surrounding area and will protect nearby wildlife habitat.
