We are proud to be part of in 'laying it all out on the table', a campaign, organised by Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) Foundation and Trussell Trust to get resident voices directly to the government, as part of Guarantee our Essentials - a wider call for the benefits system to cover essential costs, such as food, household bills and travel.
On 20 November, a tablecloth with messages from our customers about financial difficulties they face or witness, was displayed in Westminster by PlaceShapers , a national network of community-focused housing organisations, including bpha, that help communities to thrive. Organisations from across the country took part, all displaying messages for their local communities.
Will it make a difference? In her Autumn Budget speech, Rachel Reeves said she had listened to the views of JRF/ Trussell Trust before deciding to introduce the Universal Credit Fair Repayment Rate - that was following a letter they sent to her with signatures from over 200 organisations, so it’s a powerful collective voice.
