With the rise in the cost of living, we’ve seen a significant increase in the number of ‘rigged’ meters. This is where someone tampers with their energy meter, gas, electricity or both to avoid paying for the energy they use, known as energy theft.
Not only is meter tampering illegal it can be extremely dangerous and cause a significant fire risk. This can be potentially devastating to the home and those around it and, in some cases, can be life threatening.
Energy theft is a serious crime and penalties include fines and up to five years in prison.
