Staying safe during the hot weather

22 June 2026

With the current period of hot weather, we want to make sure that you have the information you need to stay safe and well at home. High temperatures can affect anyone, but older people, young children, and those with existing health conditions may be particularly at risk.

Please take a moment to follow this important advice:

  • Keep your home cool by closing curtains or blinds during the day, especially on sun-facing windows
  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids and avoiding excess alcohol
  • Try to stay out of the sun during the hottest part of the day (typically 11am to 3pm)
  • Wear light, loose-fitting clothing
  • Check in on vulnerable neighbours, friends, or family members if you can.

For more information, including how to keep your home cool and recognise signs of heat-related illness, please read the NHS official advice: https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/seasonal-health/heatwave-how-to-cope-in-hot-weather/
