Worried about your energy bills?

3 April 2026

bpha’s Money Advice Team has partnered with Better Housing Better Health (BHBH) to give you extra support if you’re worried about paying your energy bills or you’re not using your heating and/or hot water because you’re concerned about the cost.

BHBH is a service that aims to improve warmth and wellbeing at home and reduce the number of people living in fuel poverty – that’s when a household has to spend 10% or more of its income on energy to keep the home adequately warm.

Anyone can refer themselves to BHBH and there’s no eligibility criteria for the service. You can do this on their website: https://www.bhbh.org.uk/make-a-referral/ or by calling 0800 107 0044.

BHBH offers:

  • Free, impartial advice
  • Emergency fuel vouchers worth £49 for anyone on a prepayment meter who is struggling to top up (up to six vouchers per household)
  • Help signing up for those eligible to the Priority Services Register – that’s a confidential service that provide extra support from energy and water suppliers for vulnerable people
  • Free home energy visits to look at your bills and insulation and to discuss energy saving options
  • Ways to manage your energy bills, including help to switch energy suppliers (if that’s something your tenancy agreement enables you to do)
  • Help applying for grants or funding that could be help towards paying your energy bill or provide energy efficient items, such as draught excluders, thermal curtains and electric blankets.

bpha’s Money Advice service is available as usual to help you maximise your income generally. You can find out more here.
