Adaptations and equipment

bpha is committed to helping improve the quality of life for residents with disabilities and health or mobility problems, by adapting their homes and we work with local authorities to do so.

Funding for aids and adaptations is available from your local authority through the Disabled Facilities Grant. bpha also has its own annual budget to carry out this type of work.

The budget available from your local authority may vary from year to year – but we will ensure that all applications for aids and adaptations will be prioritised by need, as well as taking into consideration time spent on the waiting list.

As well as providing accommodation specifically designed for the disabled, elderly or frail we may be able to offer other help including grab-rails, ramps, bathroom alterations and stair lifts to assist with your mobility.

If you think someone in your home could benefit from an adaptation or special equipment, please contact us.

We can carry out minor works within reasonably short timescales.

A copy of our Aids and Adaptations policy is available on request.

For major works such as level access showers, you will need to contact the Borough Council’s Occupational Health team who will assess your eligibility and what adaptations would benefit you the most. This assessment service is free for everyone but you may have to pay for or contribute towards the cost of adaptations. More detailed advice is available from your local council or contact us.
